The Quilcene Complete Streets project continues its community outreach with a third and final Community Workshop scheduled for Wednesday, July 25 from 6:30-8:00 pm, at the Quilcene Community Center, 294952 US Highway 101, Quilcene.
The intent of this meeting is to review the project design, as derived from input received at previous community workshops, and discuss schedule and next steps.
The intent of the greater project is to provide the Quilcene community with enhanced pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, and bicycle lanes along Highway 101. The project may also include streetscape improvements such as traffic signs and beacons, pedestrian scale lighting, and landscaping and pedestrian features to serve as visual cues to slow down drivers as they pass through the Quilcene Center.
An integral part of the project is the creation of a context-sensitive design. This design process encourages active community participation and offer the opportunity for design visualization and consensus-building among residents, adjacent business owners, and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The project is funded through the (WSDOT) Pedestrian and Bicycle program. The goal of the program is, “to improve the transportation system to enhance safety and mobility for people who choose to bike or walk”.
