NORTH PACIFIC COAST MARINE RESOURCES COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR 2023-2025 FUNDING ROUND

JEFFERSON COUNTYThe North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee (NPC MRC) is pleased to announce its Request for Proposals (RFP) for the 2023-2025 funding round. The NPC MRC, in collaboration with the Jefferson and Clallam Boards of County Commissioners, invites project proposals aimed at promoting marine stewardship, restoration, and citizen engagement in the northern Olympic Peninsula's Pacific Coast region. Past projects have included community outreach events and materials, scientific studies of coastal geology and marine debris, beach cleanups, marine science education, remotely operated underwater vehicle competitions, and a coastal art installation.

The NPC MRC encourages participation from the local community, including first-time project applicants, and will review proposals, provide feedback for revisions, and recommend projects for funding. The committee's mission is to promote community involvement in Pacific Coast issues, enhance understanding of resource conditions and coastal community needs, and support activities and studies related to the unique management and stewardship challenges of Washington's outer coast.

Projects submitted under the RFP must fall within one of six benchmarks defined by the Coastal MRC Program Work Group under the following categories: Marine Habitats, Marine Life, Marine and Fresh Water Quality, Sound Science, Education and Outreach, or Coastal Communities. The RFP, including benchmark descriptions, is available for download at www.co.jefferson.wa.us/1523/North-Pacific-Coast-Marine-Resources-Com. Up to $75,000 is potentially available for awarding projects under this announcement.

Interested applicants are invited to share and discuss project ideas with NPC MRC members at their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Peninsula College in Forks, WA, or online. Project sponsors are also invited to make a more formal presentation of their project application at the NPC MRC meeting on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 to also be held in Forks and online. The full proposal submission deadline is Monday, August 14, 2023. Submissions should be sent via email to tpokorny@co.jefferson.wa.us or call (360) 379-4498.

"We are excited to announce this funding opportunity and encourage individuals and organizations to submit their innovative project proposals. The NPC MRC is committed to supporting marine stewardship, restoration, and engagement in our region, and we look forward to reviewing the proposals," said Tami Pokorny, NPC MRC coordinator and Natural Resources Program Coordinator at Jefferson County.
