Septic system designers are licensed by the State of Washington, Department of Licensing. To be licensed, they must undergo certain training, give evidence of experience in on-site design, and pass an exam. Anyone licensed by the State of Washington may design in Jefferson County.
Septic system installers are certified by the Jefferson County Environmental Health Division following an exam, demonstrated knowledge of septic systems, and proof of bonding and insurance. Installers who are based outside of Jefferson County may install within the county only if they are certified by Jefferson County.
Operations and Monitoring (O&M) Specialists are certified by the Jefferson County Environmental Health Division following an exam, demonstrated knowledge of septic systems, and proof of bonding and insurance. They may complete regular monitoring and some maintenance of an on-site sewage system.
O&M Specialists who are based outside of Jefferson County may monitor and maintain systems within the county only if they are certified by Jefferson County. Please contact Jefferson County Environmental Health by calling 360-385-9444 for more information on O&M Specialists.
Septic tank pumpers are permitted by the Jefferson County Environmental Health Division. Pumpers may be permitted to pump both septic tanks and portable sanicans, or to pump only sanicans. Pumpers who are based outside Jefferson County may pump tanks within the county only if they are permitted by Jefferson County.
