Services During Covid
Jefferson County Community Development is following guidance from our Board of County Commissioners, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH). Community Development Department recognizes that this is a stressful time for many, and want to continue to reassure you that your health, as well as the health of our employees and community members, remains a top priority. In an effort to slow the potential spread of COVID-19, the County is requesting all customers help limit person-to-person interaction.
DCD TO OPEN TO THE PUBLIC STARTING JULY 1, 2021.
Starting immediately, DCD will modify the way our services are provided:
- In-person permit intake appointments are again required. We will not accept building applications by email, mail, or in the dropbox. Building applications for over the counter permits, re-roof, mechanical, etc can still be accepted by mail or email. You will need to make an in-person appointment in order to submit a building permit. You can make your appointment online at our Building Permit Intake Appointment Portal here: https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/1552/Building-Permit-Intake-Appointments. Although the appointment will be in-person, we prefer that all application documents be provided electronically. You can upload them in advance to our FileShare account here: https://liquidfiles.jeffcowa.us/filedrop/DCDPermitting
- Commercial project submittals must be electronic; please use our FileShare account to submit them digitally.
- Customers must pay for their permit at the time of submittal. If you would like, you may request an estimate in advance. Please review the instructions here for getting an estimate of fees in order to submit payment at the time of submittal. Any additional or unpaid fees will be invoiced and will be required to be paid prior to permit issuance.
- Please note: applications will not be routed for review unless complete (including fees paid) so please review our submittal checklists before turning in your items. Application documents and checklists are accessible here.
- We accept payments by credit card, check, or cash. Credit cards payment can be made with our secure online credit card system in-person or in advance. You will need to have your parcel number or address available: https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/617/Credit-Card-E-Check-Payments-for-Permits. Please note that a convenience fee is charged on all online payment transactions. That fee tops $100 on permits fees of $1,000 or more and can be reduced to $2.50 by using the e-check payment option. Please make checks payable to JC DCD and mail them here: 621 Sheridan St. Port Townsend, WA 98368. If you can only pay by cash please contact our Permitting Team for assistance at 360-379-4450.
- We now have an online inspection form that can be used to schedule inspections or you can schedule an inspection by calling our inspection hotline at (360) 379-4455. Inspection progress can be viewed here: https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/582/Permit-Search-Tools. The Daily Inspection List is updated daily by 9 am. Email your inspector with any questions.
- Pre-application meetings and customer assistance meetings (CAMs) are now virtual meetings and may be available for in-person appointments; please refer to this page for updates. You can schedule your meeting here: https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/1530/Customer-Assistance-Meeting-CAM or by calling our front desk at 360-379-4450.
We’d like to thank our customers for their flexibility and patience as we find new ways of providing services to our customers while reducing the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus. We understand these service changes may be inconvenient and frustrating to our customers, but DCD is doing what we can to mitigate risk to you and our staff. We hope by taking these steps we can help slow the spread of the virus in our community. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this unprecedented time.
