In 2019, Conservation Futures funds were awarded to three projects in South County. The Quilcene Headwaters to Bay project will place a conservation easement on eighty acres along Jakeway Creek north of Quilcene Bay to protect farmland. Jefferson Land Trust is the project sponsor. The Land Trust will also acquire a conservation easement on the 21-acre Tarboo Forest Addition project along Center Road to protect mature forest and the water quality and hydrology of a Tarboo Creek tributary. The Dosewallips River Lazy C Phase I, sponsored by Jefferson County, will acquire two shoreline parcels along the Dosewallips River to support habitat restoration efforts to recover Hood Canal Summer Chum salmon. Due to the limited funds available, a fourth and worthy project in the Quimper Wildlife Corridor did not receive an award.
