Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

This board is comprised of nine members residing in Jefferson County; three members representing equally each of the County Commissioner’s districts. Appointments are made by the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners for two-year terms. Chairman and vice-chairman of the Advisory Board are elected annually among the members.

Mission Statement

“The mission of Jefferson County Parks and Recreation is to improve the health, welfare, and safety of the citizenry; protect the environment, and promote economic development through state of the art recreational and educational programs and facilities supported by public tax revenue, fees, grants and private donations."

Vision Statement

The vision of Jefferson County Parks and Recreation is not to serve every purpose, but to lead towards cooperation and comprehensive community solutions.”

Advisory Board Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in development of programs and policies
  • Review and comment upon proposed rules, policies, or ordinances prior to their adoption
  • Oversee development, revisions, and amendments to the Jefferson County Parks, Open Space and Recreation Plan

Advisory Board Meetings

Regular meetings are held on the first Thursday of February, April, June, August, October, and December, from 3 PM to 4:30 PM in the main conference room at the Jefferson County Public Works office in Port Townsend when in-person meetings are allowed and via Zoom. See the current agenda for information on how to attend.
